Morris Brown College Regains Funding
After almost 20 years, the Federal Financial Aid program has been reinstated to Morris Brown College in Atlanta. With this new accreditation, Morris Brown can make strides in attracting young black talent to its forthcoming era.
In 2002, Morris Brown lost their accreditation due to debt and other financial issues, which hindered students from applying for Federal Financial Aid. Now that Morris Brown College has been reinstated, they are eligible to participate in the Federal Financial Aid programs.
Morris Brown received its accreditation from the Virginia-based accrediting organization, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A press release by the organization announced that Morris Brown received a candidacy as they are compliant with the standards required from the accrediting body.
Morris Brown College’s recent accreditation is a significant step that demonstrates that the school meets quality standards and continuously works towards improvement. Achieving candidacy means that an institution is compliant with the standards and criteria it has set to enforce. In addition, an on-site peer team and the Accreditation Commission will provide evaluations to ensure that the institution follows the standards.
President of Morris College, Kevin James, made the following announcement after the news was announced about the school’s reinstatement (via The Atlanta Voice):
“We are elated about the reinstatement of Federal Financial Aid at Morris Brown College–this is history! I want to thank the team for their hard work and for making this possible. Students can now pay to attend Morris Brown College, which happens to be one of the most affordable colleges in the entire state of Georgia, at $4250.00 each semester. It is my goal that our students graduate with little to no debt. Morris Brown College is now a viable option to everyone as we are historically a haven for all hungry souls. It is a new day for Morris Brown College. This is truly The Hard Reset!”
