The southern region of the United States is full of HBCUs that have existed for over a century. One southern state with an abundance of HBCUs to choose from is North Carolina. In total, the state has ten accredited HBCUs (Barber-Scotia is currently unaccredited). According to UNCF (United Negro College Fund), North Carolina’s HBCUs have created 15,663 jobs, $1.7 billion in total economic impact, and $20.7 billion in lifetime earnings.
