As they near graduation, many college students fear landing a job offer. According to the University of Washington, it can take three to six months for a college graduate to secure employment. It can be discouraging for new graduates not to obtain their dream job fresh out of college.

Fortunately, the latest report by NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) shows a significant increase in employers intending to hire graduates from the Class of 2022. This survey is conducted by NACE each year to get insight from employers on their plans for hiring new college graduates. In addition, this report can provide recent graduates with an idea of what the job outlook will look like once they graduate this year.

Take a look at some of the highlights from NACE’s Job Outlook Spring Update Survey

  • Employers plan to hire 31.6% more Class of 2022 graduates than they did Class of 2021 graduates.

  • 56% of survey respondents said they plan to increase their hiring rate of new college graduates.

  • 41% of participating employers stated they would maintain their college hire numbers for 2022. Less than 4% plan to decrease their rates of college hires this year.

  • The oil and gas extraction industry will double its college hiring rates by 105.9%.

Here are some other exciting highlights from the survey:

  • 43.5% of survey respondents will continue to screen applicants by their GPA. This rate is significantly lower than the 2019 report of 73.3% of respondents using GPA screening.

  • By Fall 2022, almost 90% of survey respondents will be hiring for full-time, internship, and co-op opportunities at their companies.
