Boeing’s Renews Commitment to Support HBCUs with $8 Million Investment

 

On June 17th, Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company, reaffirmed its commitment to helping HBCUs by investing $8 million into a multi-year partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). This renewal aims to continue supporting “campus recruitment initiatives, career immersion activities, TMCF Leadership Institute programming and student scholarships…” (Yahoo! Finance). This renewed investment in The Boeing | TMCF Scholar Program will last until 2026. In addition, the previous investment of $6 million will be expanded to increase new talent in the tech departments at Boeing.

Here’s a list of the participating TMCF schools currently in the program:

  • Alabama A&M University

  • Clark Atlanta University

  • Florida A&M University

  • Howard University

  • Morehouse College

  • Morgan State University

  • North Carolina A&T State University

  • Prairie View A&M University

  • South Carolina State University

  • Southern University and A&M College

  • Spelman College

  • Tennessee State University

  • Tuskegee University

Ted Colbert, the president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, shared his thoughts on the recent announcement in a press release.

“Our company’s success and our ability to innovate for our customers is driven by how we work together and live our values, “ said Colbert. “That includes prioritizing equity, diversity, and inclusion, which is vital to achieving better outcomes. Strategic partnerships, like those with HBCUs and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, help create a space where students can flourish - and they establish a talent pipeline that is vital to future innovation across the aerospace industry and here at Boeing.”

Since the establishment of The Boeing | TMCF Scholar Program, Boeing has reached over 6,800 HBCU students, many becoming full-time employees at the company. Part of the program’s initiative is to encourage more graduates to pursue careers in tech and increase the amount of Black talent working in corporations like Boeing. 

“Being part of the program made me feel valued as a Black man in today’s society,” said John Mathis, a Morehouse College graduate and now an incoming employee at Boeing. “We’re challenged to be the best individuals we can be. This experience has challenged me and showed me how I can truly unlock my full potential” (Boeing).
