Aspiring Black Journalists Can Develop Their Talents with Forbes’ Program
Are you a Black college student attending a HBCU and looking for opportunities in the journalism field? Read on to learn how Forbes may have a journalism program for you!
The Forbes HBCU Scholars Program aims to diversify newsrooms across America by providing rising Black journalists with the opportunity to gain experience in business journalism. The program gives HBCU students and graduates a chance to sharpen their skills in the thick of Forbes’ newsroom every summer. In turn, Forbes aims to build a cohort of students of color ready to take the journalism industry by storm (Forbes).
The fellowship program, which lasts 8-12 weeks from June to August, includes workshops and mentoring led by editors and reporters. Each participant is also given a $21.00 an hour stipend throughout the program.
Prospective applicants can expect to do the following in the fellowship program:
Pitch and write stories for Forbes.com
Conduct research
Create photo galleries and other graphics
Do fact-checking
Manage social media campaigns and engagement
Collaborate with the Forbes team for special projects

Must currently be in a journalism program or have previous journalism experience.
Must have prior experience in writing, reporting, and editing.
Understanding of journalism standards and ethics.
Expertise in SEO, publishing platforms, and social media tools.
Solid oral and written communication skills.
Able to multitask and meet deadlines.
The program is available virtually or in person at their Jersey City location.
