The American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative is Looking for Student Volunteers
Are you a pre-med interested in an impactful leadership opportunity? The American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) is looking for people who would be interested in starting club chapters at their school dedicated to lung cancer advocacy!
About ALCSI and our Student Leaders:
ALCSI is a national nonprofit that is dedicated to promoting awareness for lung cancer screening for individuals at high risk of developing lung cancer through educational efforts, community outreach, and health literacy engagement.
Our student leaders regularly engage in activities such as advocating for Congress members to support a lung cancer bill, presenting to local communities about the importance of lung cancer screening, and working with local health departments to bring actionable change to your communities.
ALCSI is a community of over 350 medical students, physicians and undergraduate students who are using our voices to spread awareness of lung cancer screening and develop lung cancer advocates. We provide education, materials and training needed to confidently speak on lung cancer screening. Our training and mentorship comes from physicians and our executive team of experienced student researchers and lung cancer advocates who have worked with all levels of government to encourage the dialogue on lung cancer screening. Student leaders will have the opportunity to network with physicians across the county and at their local cancer centers.
Lung Cancer and Lung Cancer Screening:
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and the world, causing more deaths than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined. While early detection through lung cancer screening by low-dose CT significantly reduces lung cancer mortality by one-third, only 5.8% of high-risk individuals are currently getting screened. Awareness is a huge problem; 85% of Americans do not even know this life saving lung cancer screening exists.
