There are four HBCU Athletic Conferences, grouped by U.S. region, that participate in the NCAA as well as a fifth HBCU conference for intercollegiate athletics. Beyond this list, there are also associations for small colleges, junior colleges and Christian institutions.
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) consists of seven HBCUs that participate in the NCAA Division I.
Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) consists of 12 institutions that participate in the NCAA Division I.
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) consists of 15 HBCUs that participate in the NCAA Division II.
Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) consists of 13 HBCUs participating in the NCAA Division II.
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
National College Junior Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) are for small or two-year colleges.
National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) are for Christian universities, colleges and Bible colleges.
