Job hunting can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience. Often times, navigating through thousands of openings on various job boards. can be overwhelming.

If you want to reduce the time and energy you spend surfing through job boards, use the following tips to make your experience more rewarding.

Have a sense of what you’re looking for ahead of diving in

Before you start searching on Indeed, Glassdoor, or The HBCU Career Center, understand what types of jobs you’re interested in.

Ask yourself the following questions before you hit the job boards:

  • What type of work do I want to do?

  • What industry do I want to work in?

  • Am I willing to relocate for the right position?

  • Am I looking for part-time, full-time, or contract work?

  • Do I prefer an in-person, remote, or hybrid work environment?

All of these questions will help you narrow down your search parameters.

Reduce your time searching through job boards by using alerts. Job alerts will direct all the relevant jobs in your profession to your inbox, making your search easier . You can easily create job alerts with The HBCU Career Center and get daily or weekly alerts on the latest relevant openings.

Do job searches in 1 hour increments
