Calling All HBCU Students Interested in National or International Security
Are you a student interested in a career in national or international security? Consider applying for Georgetown's Center for Security Studies' weeklong Security Studies Summer Institute for HBCU students.
The application period is open until January 31, 2024 and the program will take place from June 9-15, 2024 on Georgetown's campus.
The 2023 Institute gave students an immersive experience built around the concentrations offered in the Security Studies Program: intelligence, international security, military operations, technology and security, terrorism and substate violence as well as U.S. national security policy. Additionally students learned about career paths from senior leaders of agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security and the United Nations. Students were also able to visit sites like the Pentagon, Google and the National Security Agency to get "insights into the inner workings of the security field and the numerous pathways available to them."
Isaiah Barber, a senior International Affairs and Political Science student at Howard, wrote about his experience in "Achieving Diversity in National Security: Georgetown's Security Summer Institute for HBCU Students" on Carpe Global. He appreciated learning about fellowships, internships, graduate education and career opportunities within the security fields.
Barber recommends that HBCU students interested in national security consider the Security Summer Institute because "the program opens doors, provides invaluable experiences, and connects you with like-minded individuals who share a passion for safeguarding our nation's interests- it's an opportunity that deserves to be noticed."
If you are interested, move fast. The application period is open through Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
