Here's Who's Hiring New Grads, According to LinkedIn
In an uncertain labor market, frustration, anxiety and even job search burnout can set in. Navigating a difficult job search as a new grad is not easy, and since the pandemic, it has gotten even more difficult. Recent layoffs of more experienced workers has created extra competition for new grads.
LinkedIn reports that while hiring rates have slowed 9.6% year-over-year since the pandemic, applications have jumped 14% in the past year. “The labor market was red-hot in 2021 and 2022, but that level of feverish activity has calmed down,” Harry Holzer, a Georgetown University public policy professor and former Labor Department chief economist, explained.
Despite the decrease in hiring across the board, it’s important to remember that not all industries are equal. Even in challenging economic times, some industries are still experiencing labor shortages and are hiring more than others.
According to LinkedIn’s 2024 Guide to Kickstarting Your Career, these industries are outpacing others in their hiring of entry-level professionals:
Education (teacher, admissions counselor): Average salaries range from $30k- 100k/year
Government Administration (administrative assistant, law enforcement, public services): Average salaries range from $30k-100k or more/year
Construction (project engineer, project manager): Average salaries range from $55k-89k/year
Consumer Services (case manager, program coordinator): Average salaries range from $55k-89k/year
Financial Services (financial analyst, financial advisor, investment baking): Average salaries range from $50-100k/year
