HBCUs in Texas with Medical Programs
Here we'll highlight the four HBCUs in Texas that have medical programs.
Prairie View A&M University - Prairie View, TX
PVAMU is an HBCU that offers several medical programs. The Texas Undergraduate Medical Academy at Prairie View supports its premedical students through enriched undergraduate courses, MCAT prep, mentorship and academic and career counseling. The College of Nursing offers Bachelor’s, Master's and Doctoral Nursing programs. Prairie View is the first HBCU to offer a BS/BA degree in public health, a new program that launched in 2023.
Paul Quinn College - Dallas, TX
Paul Quinn offers its students an opportunity to earn a B.S. in Health Wellness. This HBCU program leads to professional roles in coaching, community health organizations and similar careers that improve the health and wellness of individuals and communities.
St. Philip's College - Antonio, TX
St. Philip's offers multiple nursing concentrations, including nurse aid, nursing generic, vocational nursing and LVN/Military to ADN Mobility, a program for licensed vocational nurses and military medics to earn the Associate's Degree in Nursing. SPC students can also study invasive cardiovascular, respiratory, surgical and vision care technologies. This HBCU also includes concentrations in biomedical engineering technology, medical laboratory technology and cardiac sonography.
Texas Southern University - Houston, TX
TSU's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers students multiple medical program opportunities. The programs at this HBCU include a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences, Respiratory Therapy and Health Administration. Graduate students can earn a M.S. in Healthcare Administration, a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PHARMD).
