Alcorn State University
Founded in 1871, Alcorn State University was the first black land grant institution established in the United States. According to the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings, the HBCU is ranked #16 as the Most Innovative School in the nation. In addition, Alcorn State includes programs that cover agriculture, applied sciences, the arts, sciences, business, education, psychology, and nursing.
Coahoma Community College
Located in Clarksdale, Coahoma Community College is a public two-year college founded in 1949. The community college offers associate degree and certificate programs in over 70 focus areas. For prospective students looking for smaller class sizes, Coahoma provides an average student-faculty ratio of 16:1.
Jackson State University
Jackson State University is considered one of the most prominent HBCUs in the United States and the fourth-largest college in Mississippi. This HBCU is ranked #59 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings. Jackson State offers 47 undergraduate programs, 50 graduate programs, and 19 online programs for distance learners.
Mississippi Valley State University

Rust College
Rust College is a private HBCU located in Holly Springs. The liberal arts HBCU is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Rust College offers 20 undergraduate programs and two associate degree programs for prospective students to choose from. Some of the college's areas of study are Business, Division of Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Tougaloo College
In Jackson, Tougaloo College is a private HBCU affiliated with the United Church of Christ and Christian Church. The HBCU “prepares its students to be lifelong learners committed to leadership and service in a global society through its diverse undergraduate and graduate programs.” The college offers four schools: Education, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
