FedEx Kicked Off Black History Month With New HBCU Student Ambassador Program
As a way of celebrating this year’s Black History Month, one of the world’s largest transportation and logistics companies, FedEx, announced a new Student Ambassador Program for HBCU students. The program will include students from the following eight Historically Black Colleges and Universities:
Fayetteville State University
Jackson State University
Lane College
LeMoyne-Owen College
Miles College
Mississippi Valley State
Paul Quinn College
Tennessee State University
As reported by MSN, FedEx’s Student Ambassador Program is one component of the company’s continued commitment to supporting HBCUs across the country. In 2021, FedEx donated $5 million to HBCUs in Tennessee and Mississippi to help students, faculty, and staff impacted by COVID-19 (WLBT 3).
HBCU students were selected based on their career interests in various professional areas, including technology, marketing, sales, and operations. They can expect to gain insight into FedEx’s leadership by working on projects with team members. They will also participate in seminars and access resources to assist them with a successful entry into the workforce. FedEx hopes that the program will help to diversify the company’s workforce.
The program will begin in March with its very first cohort. After that, students will participate in a hybrid version of the program, with a mix of in-person and virtual meetings. FedEx’s goal is to introduce a new cohort of students each year, which will align with their five-year commitment to HBCUs, according to Yahoo! Finance.
“The FedEx-HBCU Student Ambassador program will continue to strengthen our important relationships with HBCUs across the country,” said Judy Edge, corporate vice president of human resources at FedEx. “We’re preparing tomorrow’s leaders, and the students we reach through this program will gain valuable practical experience that will help prepare them to enter the workforce. It will also help us to continue to bring diverse talent into our pipeline at FedEx.”
