4 Ways to ‘Future-Proof’ Your Job Amid the AI Wave
The rise of artificial intelligence has ignited a global concern among workers due to fear of AI-related job loss. Some fear is based on reality. A recent World Economic Forum study predicts that advanced technologies such as AI, robotics and machine learning will replace approximately 85 million jobs by 2025.
If this study is any indication, AI isn’t going anywhere.
It’s true, the AI wave is expected to be a $407 billion industry by 2027. And while some careers may be eliminated due to AI, research also shows it is actually expected to create nearly 100 million new jobs as well. So how do you make sure your career stays future-proof amid the AI wave?
Here are four AI-proof, unique, human skills that will make you stand out in the workforce and that are also hard, or even impossible, to automate:
Make the Most of AI Technology. Start with the basics to discover why AI is drawing so much interest in the first place. Experiment with a variety of AI tech and study how successful entrepreneurs use them. Stay up-to-date on new programs and discover which AI tools could be used within your work.
Build Your “People Skills.” AI is wonderful for automating routine tasks, but it has not quite figured out how to portray more human traits like empathy and emotional intelligence. Soft skills will become more valuable as AI grows in popularity.
Be Creative. Remember, the appeal of AI is its ability to ingest super-human amounts of data and create predictive models that execute tasks with surprising precision. Don’t try to “think like AI.” Instead, embrace the human ability to think creatively and make mistakes, which can often lead to good ideas.
Network. Create solid bonds with others. One thing AI can’t do (yet) is network, which reportedly leads to 80 percent of all hiring.
The use of AI is not going away. However, if you put in the time and effort to think outside the box and plan ahead, you can “future-proof” your professional future in despite the AI wave.
