Web3 refers to an emerging group of technologies that are ushering in the third generation of the World Wide Web. Web3 technologies include cryptocurrency, NFTs (non fungible tokens), machine learning, and blockchain based platforms that have improved security measures. With its growth in popularity, many companies are looking to hire the right talent to help them succeed in the next generation of the internet. 

Interested in a Web3 career? These are the types of roles companies are currently hiring for.

Software Developer

Software developers use their understanding of programming languages to create software programs. These professionals typically work across a variety of tech companies and are critical to creating the programs that our society is reliant upon everyday.

Some of their responsibilities may include:

  • Gathering user feedback

  • Troubleshooting and maintaining software

Blockchain Engineer

Blockchain engineering is a growing profession, thanks to the increased use of cryptocurrency globally. IBM’s concise definition of Blockchain is a that “Blockchain is a shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the process of recording transactions and tracking assets in a business network. An asset can be tangible (a house, car, cash, land) or intangible (intellectual property, patents, copyrights, branding) (IBM).” While Blockchain technology can sound confusing at first, the best way to grasp its usefulness is to ask yourself: what systems in the world could benefit from the ability for a community to view a full history of transactions for a particular item?

A blockchain engineer’s primary role is to create and deliver a digital blockchain to help businesses thrive in a global marketplace. This information is maintained in a cloud system across multiple computers in a peer-to-peer network. 

A blockchain engineer’s job duties may include the following: 

  • Assessing cybersecurity issues that affect blockchain technology.

  • Troubleshooting any errors in the blockchain. 

  • Researching high-quality materials needed for blockchain projects.

  • Maintaining back-end and front-end application maintenance.

Unity Developer

A unity developer is a software developer with experience using the Unity platform. Unity is a real-time 2D and 3D development platform for building games and simulations. For Web3 companies, a unity developer can build games that fit their target audience within the Unity platform. 

The responsibilities of a unity developer may include the following:

  • Designing and maintaining reliable code.

  • Creating and implementing functionality into a program.

  • Translating design ideas and concepts into a functional game.

Community Manager

With Web3 aiming to be a more community-centric version of the World Wide Web, companies must ensure they have strong communication channels to engage with customers. Community managers can help a Web3 company build and retain its target audience. These professionals act as a company's moderator, and voice.

Community managers have the following responsibilities:

  • Creating content that matches the company’s brand, mission, and values.

  • Planning and scheduling social media content and campaigns. 

  • Interacting with customers with forums and other community-building initiatives.

Marketing Officer

Marketing is essential for any company looking to draw in traffic and sales. For Web3 companies, marketing officers will continue to be in demand. Marketing officers are typically multi-faceted professionals who are experts in digital marketing, branding, and advertising. Marketers will play a vital role in communicating the value of Web3 platforms that utilize never-before-seen applications.

Also known as full-stack Web3 developers, a full-stack engineer is a “high-level software engineer that works to design, test, and implement various software applications” (Coursera).  These professionals are skilled in creating software, applications, and web services for their employers. Often, full-stack engineers act as a leader, working with front and back-end developers on various projects.

Graphic Designer

Every company needs graphics to help attract new customers. Graphic designers are the artists behind a company’s social media content, web pages, email campaigns, and much more. With the help of a marketing team, graphic designers create graphics that match a company’s mission, tone, and voice.

Graphic designers may be responsible for the following:

  • Plan concepts by researching relevant trends and information.

  • Following a company’s brand guidelines to establish creative direction.

The day-to-day responsibilities of a growth marketer are:
