Here are the three HBCUs with largest enrollment if you’re looking for campuses with a large student population.

North Carolina A&T State University

Total Enrollment (Fall 2021): 13,322

Based in Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) has had the largest HBCU student enrollment since 2014. In addition to having the highest number of enrollments, the public university is also the number one producer of degrees given to African Americans in North Carolina. According to U.S. News, the most popular majors at NCAT are Engineering, Business, Management, Marketing, Communication, and Psychology.

Howard University

Total Enrollment (Fall 2021): 12,065

Founded in 1867, Howard University is a private college based in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. According to U.S. News, Howard ranks number 21 in best undergraduate teaching. The most popular majors at Howard are Biology, Political Science, Public Relations, Psychology, Communications, and Kinesiology. 

Prairie View A&M University

Total Enrollment (Fall 2021): 9,426

Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) is Texas's second oldest public university. Since 1876, the institution, which spreads over 1,440 acres, offers over 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), business, nursing, arts, and criminal and juvenile justice. Some of PVAMU’s most famous majors are Physical Education Teaching and Coaching, Nursing, and Nutrition.
