Patrick Mahomes is all in on the HBCU Legacy Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs’ Quarterback Patrick Lavon Mahomes II, announced a multi-year partnership with the HBCU Legacy Bowl starting in 2022. The postseason opportunity will feature approximately 100 of the top draft-eligible prospects from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

HBCUs have a long and distinguished history of launching the careers of many top American athletes across many sports. Recently, at the NBA All-Star game, that league recognized the role of HBCUs in players, coaches and professionals across the generations.

This new partnership has Mahomes’ foundation partnering with the Black College Football Hall of Fame founded by Doug Williams and James Harris in 2009. The purpose of the Black College Football Hall of Fame organization was to “preserve the history and honor the greatest football players, coaches and contributors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).”

So far there have been 90 Inductees in the Hall of Fame, all of whom have all notable careers as players, coaches and contributors to the sport. The Black College Hall of Fame acknowledges the contributions of HBCUs as home to many athletes who could not enroll at other colleges in the early days of football.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl, set in Black History Month of 2022, is scheduled to take place the Saturday after the Super Bowl at Tulane University and will air on NFL Network. The game will be the culmination of a week-long celebration of Black culture and history, that HBCUs are already excited about!
