A Look Into Google.org's Impact Challenge for Women and Girls

Many young girls and women aspire to make moves toward their dream careers or start their businesses but don’t have the resources or mentors to help them. With the lack of guidance or tools, it can be easy to feel defeated and believe achieving one’s dreams is not possible. Fortunately, Google.org and many others have created an initiative to help black young professionals and others work towards success.

According to their website, the Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls 2021 is committing $25 million to help organizations that are assisting girls and women to “reach their full economic potential and thrive.” The challenge was started as a response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which hindered the future economic success of women and girls. To address this issue, Google.org decided to rally organizations that are already close to these challenges.

Google.org has partnered with organizations like Vital Voices and the Global Goals and cultural icons like Amanda Gorman, Naomi Osaka, Shakira, and many more to support the initiative. As of now, Google.org has selected the projects for the Impact Challenge for Women and Girls. Each of the project’s organizations received funding estimated between $300,000 and $1 million and mentorship opportunities and support from Google.

Some of the selected projects and organizations include the following:

  • ImpactHER Foundation: Supports female entrepreneurs who don’t have internet access by introducing them to e-commerce.

  • Black Girls CODE: Works towards closing the opportunity gap for black women and girls by pushing towards equal representation in the tech industry.

  • The Action Foundation: Provides opportunities for girls with disabilities to explore STEM through boot camps and mentorship.

  • International Youth Foundation: Helps train young women in technical and life skills to improve the representation of women in the IT industry.

Google.org’s Impact Challenge For Women And Girls 2021 initiative sets out to help women and girls and the organizations that support them to receive more opportunities to excel in life. From training to mentorship, Google.org has chosen a wide range of organizations helping girls and women across the globe receive the tools and guidance needed to succeed in life.
