Other Ideas for College Resumes!

There is a ton of information on this site to help you write the perfect college resume.

After talking with a student last week, I thought I would add some of the other special information to include on a college resume.

1.Interests – These can vary widely, but the closer they fit the position for which you are applying the more interested the recruiter will be. eg. web design, church or school clubs and bands

2.Extra and co-curicuar activities eg ROTC and Band can tell recruiters a lot about your teamwork skills, self discipline and committment.

3.Awards eg Acknowledgements for participation or outstanding work. Recruiters are always interested in achievers and past behavior is a good indicator of future behavior.

4.Membership – Joined any clubs or teams? Association with larger groups will indicate to recruiters that you are willing to step beyond your comfort zone.

5.Leadership – Selected to lead teams or groups? Started a group or rejuvenated an old group?

6.Classes – Taken honors classes or classes outside of school?

A college resume is the place to showcase talents and experiences, but remember that it is only a part of the job search.

Once you have a good draft of your college resume, visit your campus career center (click on the tab to find your HBCU) for help proofreading and practising for the job interview.
